Gulf Shores City Council Meeting – April 13, 2020

City of Gulf Shores Planning Laguna Cove Project

The Gulf Shores City Council approved a professional services agreement with Goodwyn, Mills, & Cawood, Inc. to provide engineering, architectural and inspection services required to design and permit various improvements for the Laguna Cove Little Lagoon Natural Resource Protection Project. Gulf Shores received a grant to acquire a 53-acre tract on Little Lagoon contingent upon the conservation and restoration of natural resources and passive outdoor recreation. The property has 6100 feet of shoreline on Little Lagoon, and has significant areas of wetlands and other critical habitat. Protection of this natural area will serve to enhance water quality and habitat for the Little Lagoon Watershed, while providing passive public recreation opportunities. The scope of the project includes protecting and restoring critical habitat and wetland areas, dune restoration, public restrooms, low impact public parking, passive recreation opportunities such as kayaking, birding, or interpretive boardwalks. The city will seek public and community involvement as the planning process moves forward.


Foley Planning Commission Meeting – April 15, 2020

Last Phase of Ledgewick Receives Approval

The Foley Planning Commission conducted its April Planning Commission meeting via teleconferencing. The Commission granted a request by Magnolia Land Company, Inc. for preliminary approval of Ledgewick Phase III. This is the last phase of the PUD, and will consist of 49 residential lots, on 18.74 acres. The property is located at the southeast corner of N. Pecan St. and Perfection Rd.


Foley City Council Meeting – April 20, 2020

Extension Granted for Construction Permits

The Foley City Council voted to automatically extend construction permits for the duration of the COVID-19 State of Emergency, plus an additional six months. No request for extension need be made for projects in this case.


Daphne City Council Meeting – April 20, 2020

Committee Meetings Resume in May; Council Video Broadcasts Working Well

The Daphne City Council voted to resume committee meetings in May. Due to COVID-19 the city committees had stopped meeting. The City has also instituted technology to broadcast city council meetings, which have continued to be held. City Council meetings can be viewed by the public live on the City of Daphne Facebook page.


Baldwin County Commission Meeting – April 21, 2020

Agenda Items Tabled

The Baldwin County Commission met for its regularly scheduled meetings in April. Due to COVID-19 protocols two agenda items that required a public hearing were tabled. Tabled items include zoning text amendments for the Point Clear area, and site plan review for Savannah Estates residential subdivision east of Daphne. The items are expected to be back on the agenda 5-19-2020.

Fairhope City Council Meeting – April 27, 2020

Conceptual Design for Fairhope Waterfront & Pier Revealed

The Fairhope City Council reviewed a conceptual design plan to restore and stabilize the waterfront area at the city pier park. The city was awarded grants through BP RESTORE funds to stabilize the bluffs and revitalize the waterfront and pier area. The presentation to the council included a conceptual drawing of what the area may look like with the improvements. The design includes shifting parking away from the waterfront and pier entrance, adding jetties to reduce beach erosion, providing gallery steps for sunset viewing and traversing the bluff topography, etc. The plan was based on citizen input and will continue to evolve with feedback from the council and public.


Gulf Shores Planning Commission Meeting – April 28, 2020

Aventura Phase II Receives Preliminary Plat Approval

The Gulf Shores Planning Commission granted preliminary subdivision plat approval for Phase II of the Aventura Subdivision development. The property is located south of Oak Road West, west of the Gulf Shores Landfill, and east of Old Plash Island Road. This is the second phase of three, in the Aventura PUD master plan. Phase II will consist of 109 single family lots, on 53 acres. The total subdivision, when all three phases are complete, will have 404 lots, on 211 acres. Truland Homes is the builder for Phase II.


The Grove at Craft Farms Receives Preliminary Plat Approval

The Gulf Shores Planning Commission granted preliminary subdivision plat approval for The Grove at Craft Farms. The Grove is planned to include 13 single family lots, on 4.77 acres. The property is located on Cotton Creek Dr., between Cotton Creek Blvd., and Pinehurst Dr. The lots will be just south of Craft Farms, and north of the airport.


Osprey Landing Phases II and III Receive Preliminary Plat Approval

The Gulf Shores Planning Commission granted preliminary subdivision plat approval for Phases II and III of Osprey Landing. The residential subdivision is located on the south side of Coastal Gateway Blvd, directly south of Osprey Landing Subdivision Phase I. Phase II will add 25 residential lots. Phase III will add 22 residential lots.


West Lagoon Lots Being Subdivided

The Gulf Shores Planning Commission granted final subdivision plat approval to subdivide three acres from three lots into 6 lots The property is located in the 1400 block of West Lagoon Ave., north of W. Beach Blvd. The division is intended for use as single family residential.
