Robertsdale, AL (September 22, 2022) – Baldwin Realtors®, the local association and MLS for Realtors® in Baldwin County and surrounding areas, was awarded a grant from the National Association of Realtors®’ (NAR) Housing Opportunity Program to support activities that create and expand housing options. The grant was used to hold a workshop with the City of Foley and other community stakeholders aimed at assisting the municipality with a roadmap to achieve more affordable housing options that are viewed positively by the community.
On Tuesday, September 13th, a group of local Realtors®, engineers, and government leaders came together for a workshop facilitated by national speaker Nathan Norris, founder of CityBuilding Partnership. The workshop focused on addressing the city of Foley’s hidden potential of placemaking as an economic tool. By dedicating time to thoughtful conversation, the group of attendees looked to chart the course for responsible and high-quality growth in Foley.
As the facilitator, Norris’s experience working as an employee of: (1) local government, (2) planning firms, (3) non-profits, and (4) real estate development teams, affords him the ability to ask the right questions and identify practical steps forward to groups of community leaders looking to better leverage their planning and development initiatives.
“Realtors® build communities and work hard to make the American Dream a reality for millions of Americans each year,” said Jennifer Foutch, Association Executive Officer for Baldwin Realtors®. “This was a great opportunity to bring together city leaders, Realtors®, and members of the engineering and development community. We were able to raise awareness about the need for more diverse housing options and look for ways to implement better design standards while keeping middle housing affordable.”
Nationwide, NAR offers Housing Opportunity Grants to various state and local Realtor® Associations in effort to support a wide range of housing opportunity initiatives, including housing symposia; home buyer education or housing fairs; counseling and financial literacy efforts; housing needs studies; and Realtor® affordable housing education.
