ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – Baldwin REALTORS® annual “Thanks & Giving” event looked a little different this year thanks to Coronavirus, but the outcome was still very positive for four local charities. Every November, the Community Service Committee donates half of the MLS fines collected throughout the year to selected non-profits. Checks are typically presented at a luncheon event held at Baldwin REALTORS® Building in Robertsdale; however, a large indoor event was not the best approach for 2020. Instead, Community Service Committee Chair Rachel Romash-Reese of Elite Real Estate Solutions, Baldwin REALTORS® CEO Sheila Dodson and other committee members took a morning to deliver checks to the recipients of this year’s charitable giving.
The charities that received financial aid were the Baldwin County Education Coalition, Ecumenical Ministries of Baldwin County, and Prodisee Pantry. This year’s recipients were selected by the Community Service Committee through an application process. “We wanted to make the wisest use of the funds available for donation,” said Committee Chair Rachel Romash-Reese. “After looking through several applications, these three charities stood out to our committee because of the direct efforts they are making to help families and individuals in our communities.”
Additionally, Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County was presented a check for the funds raised through Baldwin REALTORS® Open House Blitz back in June.
Baldwin County Education Coalition, which aims to improve public education in Baldwin County, received $2,500 to help recoup money lost from fundraisers that were unable to happen due to COVID-19.
Ecumenical Ministries of Baldwin County received $5,000 to continue assisting low-income families and individuals following the devastation of Hurricane Sally and job loss caused by the pandemic.
Prodisee Pantry, the local food bank located in Spanish Fort, AL, received $5,000 to provide 140 Baldwin County families with emergency food, Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes this season.
“2020 has been a difficult year for so many. We hope these donations can lighten the load for some and spread a little cheer as we approach the holidays,” said Baldwin REALTORS® CEO Sheila Dodson. “As REALTORS® serving Baldwin County, our members are very passionate about seeing our local communities heal and build strength for a new year.”
